A wide variety of new Mazda cars are expected to hit the market soon, and our team at Star Mazda of Glendale are excited to see just what’s in store. One of the many vehicles unveiled recently is the 2020 Mazda6, and what we know so far breaks the mold of last year’s version.
Sleek angular lines, sharp edges, edgy headlights, and an overall design that belongs in a luxury lineup, the 2020 Mazda6 is taking what was great about the 2019 model and capitalizing on it. One thing drivers can look forward to is a game-changing diesel engine beneath the hood.
While optional, drivers who are hoping to get a little more oomph from the 2020 Mazda6 can find it in a 2.2-liter diesel engine. This addition of a more efficient engine option, this engine expands on the existing 2.5-liter four-cylinder standard engine which already offers some incredible performance but pales in comparison to the diesel version. There’s still a lot to learn about the Mazda6’s new diesel powertrain, but if it is anything like the diesel engine in the 2019 Mazda CX-5, we can expect something in the ballpark of 168 horsepower and 290 lb-ft worth of torque.
What makes the option of a diesel engine truly remarkable is its significant boost to fuel economy. Diesel engines use their fuel more efficiently, and as a result, the 2020 Mazda6 diesel engine will enjoy a more fuel-conscious drive. While exact numbers aren’t in yet, the Mazda CX-5 diesel option garners 27 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway making for 28 mpg combined, so we can probably expect something similar.
While the 2020 Mazda6 is still a little ways out, our Mazda dealers are more than willing to keep you updated on all the latest Mazda news. At Star Mazda we strive to be more than just a classic dealership, we want to be your main source for all things automotive.
