Here at Star Mazda, we pride ourselves in customer satisfaction. From our wide selection of new Mazda models to our passionate sales staff, we’ll go above and beyond to fulfill any and all of your automotive needs. However, we are often asked about the importance of motor fluid maintenance.

For starters, gasoline isn’t the only motor fluid out there. Sure, you need gasoline to power your vehicle. However, three other major fluids contribute to the short term and long-term well-being of your vehicle; coolant, transmission fluid, and motor oil.

Motor oil is possibly the most important kind of motor fluid. Motor oil is engine lubricant, and it keeps all of the complicated pieces of your engine running smoothly. Although, over time your motor oil can develop deposits of grime. These grime deposits can hinder the motor oil’s effectiveness and can hinder fuel efficiency, and led to some serious long-term issues. Fortunately, you can prevent this by replacing your motor oil once every three or so months.

Coolant is what the name implies it to be; engine cooling fluid. Coolant prevents your engine from overheating and is stored in the radiator. Over time your coolant levels can drop, which can cause your engine to overheat. An overheated engine can be dangerous and lead to serious maintenance complications.

Lastly, transmission fluid is the lubricant for your transmission, which is tasked with switching gears. Like motor oil, transmission fluid can develop grime and can make it harder for your transmission to shift gears. In the long-term, it can result in some pretty costly repairs. Also like motor fluid, transmission fluid can be replaced, and many maintenance professionals recommend that you swap it out every 30,000-60,000 miles
